Rather than starting from scratch, giving new life to an old poultry farm by renovating it can be a really smart move. The thing is, each old building is unique, with its own set of challenges, so it's crucial to come up with a plan that's tailored to its specific needs.
Recently, HENGON worked with a customer in Cagayan, Philippines, who planned to transform three unused chicken houses into a modern cage farming facility.
Our team came up with a plan after checking out the site, taking some measurements, and talking about the technical details. We based our solution on what's already there, what the company wants to achieve in the future, and what they need to keep things running smoothly in the long run.
The customer purchased three unused poultry houses several years ago and planned to bring them back into operation.
After checking the site, we found that the conditions of the three buildings were different.
There was only one house that could be fixed up because it had strong concrete parts, so its foundation was still good. The other two houses were not in good shape and couldn't be changed, so they would have to be torn down and built again from scratch.
For the building that could be renovated, some existing structures could continue to be used, including parts of the concrete floor, concrete columns, and brick walls.
To get the building ready for a new cage farming system, the old internal support structures and the outdated plastic mesh system would need to be taken out.
This type of renovation requires careful evaluation because the new equipment and building structure must work together properly.
The customer pays great attention to product quality and long-term maintenance costs.
To provide a more durable solution, the renovated poultry house will use hot-dip galvanized steel structures with strong corrosion resistance, which are especially suitable for tropical climates like the Philippines.
The existing concrete columns will be connected with galvanized steel columns using chemical anchors, creating a stronger structure while making full use of the existing building.
For better insulation and easier maintenance, PU sandwich panels will be used for the walls and ceiling.
Compared with traditional materials, PU panels provide better thermal insulation and help create a more stable environment for birds.
For this customer, the goal was clear:
A poultry house that requires less maintenance and can provide reliable performance for many years.
One important requirement from the customer was flexibility.
They wanted the new farm to support both chick rearing and broiler production.
Based on this requirement, HENGON recommended a 1.6-meter-wide broiler cage system.
Compared with a narrower cage, the wider design provides a more suitable environment for local red feather broilers while maintaining similar production capacity.
The customer decided to vaccinate their chickens during the brooding stage, even though it's a bit harder with bigger cages. But they thought it was worth it because it fits better with their long-term plan for the farm. This way, they can make sure their chickens are healthy and strong from the start. It's a good choice for the customer, and it will help them in the long run.
Choosing equipment is not only about current production. It should also match the customer's future operation strategy.
The customer also paid close attention to the environmental control system.
The old poultry house's fiberglass fans will still be used for ventilation, but only after they've been checked to make sure they're working properly.
The customer chose honeycomb paper cooling pads for cooling because they are really good at soaking up water and letting air flow through. Usually, these pads need to be replaced every few years so they can keep working well.
The customer's father is an electrical engineer, so the electrical system requirements were also higher than standard projects.
To ensure reliable operation, the project will use high-quality components, including ITDIVE motors and Schneider electrical parts.
These details may not always be visible after installation, but they directly affect the stability and service life of the poultry farm.
Before starting the project, the customer visited HENGON's factory in June and learned more about our production process, equipment manufacturing, and quality control.
